Genie Jackpots Megaways, released in 2018, is a sequel to the original Genie Jackpots slot which Blueprint produced a few years ago. It was popular with players at the time, and so the developer felt it merited being revisited and given the ‘Megaways' treatment. We're inclined to agree - it was a fun slot to begin with, but the additional functionality has given it an edge.

The slot takes place in the Arabian world, with a cartoonish style that's full of little nods to movies like ‘Aladdin.' A deep and foreboding voice welcomes you to the slot when you first load it, but after that seemingly out-of-place bit of terror, it's all happiness and smiles. Visually, it's a pinch below what we've come to expect from Blueprint; the graphics certainly aren't bad, but they're not as cinematic or detailed as the design of their movie-licensed slots. There's a moody, cloudy background capturing the Arabian desert at night, sandy brown reels and rows, and a genie's lamp in the bottom right-hand corner. Keep an eye on that, as it might be used to modify the reels at any time randomly.

On those sandy reels you’ll find playing card values 9 to A representing the low-hanging fruit, with images that stay true to the slot’s theme taking up the rest of the space - a pair of swords, an Arabic turban, a treasure chest that’s spilling over with gold and the slot’s logo as the highest-value basic symbol. The reel modifiers occur randomly and can happen on any spin, so we’ll take a look at them first. There are four possible effects, all of which are prompted by the genie emerging from his magic lamp and directing his powers at the reels.

Wild Megaways adds more of the ‘wild megaways' symbols to the reels, which gives you the guarantee that every possible way to win will be open to you on your next spin.

Genie Wilds adds more of the ‘genie wilds’ symbols, with the potential to turn an entire reel wild. If that happens, the genie will use his powers again to provide a 5x multiplier to any resultant winnings.

Genie Win Spin adds both extra wilds and further mystery symbols to the reels, guaranteeing that your next spin will win you something. That ‘something’ could be small or large!

Bonus Megaways is probably the random feature you’ll be happiest to see - it adds more bonus symbols to the reels, and makes your chances of triggering one of the game’s other bonus features more likely.

All of the other bonus features are variations on the idea of Free Spins but come with some great quirks. You need three or more bonuses anywhere in sight to trigger the round. You receive ten free spins for three bonus symbols, twelve for four, fifteen for five or twenty for all six of them. That takes you to a new screen, where you choose one of four lamps. Your selection of lamp will determine which free spins round you get to play, which will be one of four.

Mystery Wishes adds mystery symbols to the reels. When they land, they all become the same matching symbol, thus adding to your winnings.

Unlimited Multiplier is a great feature. Every time you spin, the multiplier applied to your winnings increases by a factor of 1x. Locking Wilds, as the name suggests, means that any wilds you find during your spins freeze in place until the round is over. If you’re able to fill a reel with them, you receive more free spins.
